Chinese Unit Programmes & Events

1. Applied Learning Programme (ALP)

Sec 3 ALP: Lyrics Writing

Evergreen Secondary School has been selected as one of the four schools in Singapore to offer the Enhanced ALP (Mother Tongue Languages), and this is the prototype year for us to plan, craft, test out and refine the curriculum for the Enhanced ALP.

EVG’s Enhanced ALP programme offers a comprehensive curriculum to guide students in their lyrical expressions and to convey their emotions through music. The songs that have been produced through this programme have been sent in to represent the school for the annual Xinyao competition, and have received many accolades. The writing of Xinyao gives students a valuable opportunity to express themselves in an original and creative way, and they also learn how to apply Mandarin in an authentic context.

2) 2019 Chinese New Year Celebration

Through different activities and the Chinese New Year concert, the Chinese New Year celebration aims to enrich students’ learning experience by promoting the understanding of traditional Chinese festivals. In 2019, the Chinese New Year Concert was organised together with the Mother Tongue Languages Fortnight, and selected students performed their works onstage! The script of the musical segment of the concert was written by our students during their CL ALP Programme.

3. Reading Programme

The Reading Programme exposes students to different stories, thus expanding their vision. Divergent questions are designed to promote critical thinking skills and develop students’ confidence in sharing their own opinions during discussions. The students analysed the stories that they have read, present it in the form of a book review and recommend it as future reading materials for their peers. The students have a chance to be creative in designing the book review and also demonstrate their point of view as they read the book.

Some of the students’ book reviews are as below:
