Outstanding All-Rounder Student Awards

Outstanding All-Rounder Student Awards Ceremony
By Abha Belwal (2 Respect) and Felicia Teo (2 Integrity)
It was a glamorous evening on the 22nd May 2012, at The Grassroots' club. The North West Community Development Council (CDC) organized the Outstanding All-Rounder Students (OARS) Awards Ceremony which was held annually to recognise students who have done well in both academic and non-academic areas. The nominations were based on four main criteria; academic, leadership, co-curricular activities and community services.

The event started off when the Guest of Honour, Ms Sim Ann, the Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Education and Ministry of law, delivered an opening speech and expressed her warm congratulations to all the award winners. It was then followed by a video showcasing the inspiring achievements of three CDC awards winners.

When it was finally the time for the School Level Awards, the parents and teachers began taking out their phones and cameras, in a bid to capture the moment that rewarded their children's hard work. One by one, the award winners walked up the stage to receive their certificate and shook hands with the Guest of Honour. Endure Goh from 4 Respect and Nur Khairah from 4 Commitment did the school proud as they received their award from Ms Sim Ann.

It was soon time for the CDC Level Award, the top level award given out to students who best exemplify the spirit of the OARS Award. Once again, an EVGian, Risa Lee from 4 Integrity, did us proud by receiving award from Ms Sim Ann.

It was a memorable event. We would like to congratulate Endure, Khairah and Risa for their great achievements.

He resiliently overcame all his personal and learning difficulties, and was well-regarded by his schoolmates for being a helpful person. He respected the effort put in by the teachers and responded by learning diligently after school. Never afraid to ask questions, he took the school motto, “Aspire and Achieve” to heart. As a result of his passion to excel, Han Long attained 6 “A”s in the 2011 “N” Level Examinations. Well done, Han Long!  We are proud of you! Malay Language Drama Competition

TNET Club is a nonprofit teen organization that aims to inspire and enrich the lives of teenagers in Singapore. This year is their 10th anniversary. In celebration, a story-telling competition for primary schools and a drama competition for secondary schools was organized by Teens Network. It was also supported by Berita Harian & People’s Association. In conjunction with the National Malay Language Month, these competitions were organized to instill a deep interest for the use of Malay Language amongst students.

On 2nd June 2012, our Sec 4NA ML students took part in the qualifying round and made it to the finals. The finals were held on the 7th of July 2012 and our students came in 3rd for the drama competition.
It was the first time they had participated in such an event. With no background in theatre, they  learnt the ropes of drama production within a short period of time. Their enthusiasm and courage to learn new things and develop new skills are commendable. This experience has enriched their lives and left them with wonderful memories. More>>
