History of EVG Chinese Orchestra
EVG Chinese Orchestra started as a multi-racial group in July 2006 with a strength of 70 members. Since then, the orchestra has matured in experience with the increase in members to 150 students consisting of Chinese and Malays.

With the strong support from the school and parents together with the dedicated, experienced and well-known instructors, committed teachers-in-charge and our Chinese Orchestra members, we have achieved a Silver award in the Singapore Youth Festival 2007, and Gold with Honours award in Singapore Youth Festival for two years in 2009 and 2011. As a young orchestra, we are really proud of our achievement. Chinese Orchestra was also given the honour to perform in various school functions and invite to perform in public places such as the 3rd International Conference on Teaching and Learning with Technology (iCTLT) at Suntec Convention Centre and River HongBao.

EVG Chinese Orchestra not only gives the members the opportunity to play instruments but to excel in it. Thus, the members are highly encouraged and are given strong support to take up International Music Examination Grade as we believe that to be able to excel at a musical instrument is a tremendous privilege. The commitment, the perseverance and the need to work together as a team to improve one’s skill enhances the maturity of our members and thus building their confidence and self-esteem.

Evergreen Secondary Chinese Orchestra Performance at Istana Open House on 9th February 2016 (2nd day of Chinese New Year)

We have a piece of good news to share! The Evergreen Secondary Chinese Orchestra was privileged to be invited to perform at the prestigious Istana Open House on 9th February 2016.

Led by our conductor Mr Zhan Yong Ming, the orchestra performed the ever-popular Chinese New Year songs: 新春乐 (Joy of New Year), 新年快 (Happy Chinese New Year) and 花好月圆 (Full-bloomed Flowers under the Full Moonlight) to resounding rounds of applause and cheers from the audience. The harmonious and lively combination of our instruments replicated the joyous and festive atmosphere of the lunar New Year that was enjoyed by those who were present.

The highlight of our performance was when our President, Dr Tony Tan and our First Lady, Mrs Mary Tan, appeared to grace our performance with their presence. It was a great honour to be able to play for them, and all of us were caught in an upswept state
of happiness and pride as our beloved President clapped along with the festive beat of the songs.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank
our gracious audience, parents and family members, Principal Mrs Carol Lim, HODs Mr Viknes and James Ng for supporting us at the event. It was an exciting and enriching experience that the teachers and students will remember for a long time to come!
